County Forest Preserve
Saratoga County owns and maintains forest lands within the Town of Northumberland that provide for passive recreation and the protection of open space. The “Fire Pond” tract, located on Pettis Road, consists of 123 acres of forest. The largest tract, bordered by Duncan, Colebrook and Taylor Roads, consists of 377 acres of reforestation lands and is located in the central portion of town. The county preserve also includes the 104 acre Kalabus woodlot, which is located at the end of Gailor Lane in the southern section of Northumberland.
The county manages these lands for timber production, but town residents and visitors use them for hiking, biking and other recreational uses. Only recently have gates been installed to curb littering and illegal dumping.
